From 25 March 2026
The Berry Head and Berry Head (Southern Redoubt) (Areas of Special Protection) (Amendment) Order 1988 updated the original 1984 designation to include part of the coastal waters off Berry Head and the Southern Redoubt as Areas of Special Protection for wild birds under section 3 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The attached drawing shows the hatched area covered by this protection.
Any person who, within these Areas of Special Protection, at any time intentionally:
Shall be guilty of an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
Any mariner who, especially between 25th March and 31st July, enters the Area of Special Protection established in the coastal waters lying off Berry Head (as shown in the attached drawing) is likely to be found guilty of an offence if initiating any contravention of the aforementioned stipulations. This includes any person using a kayak/canoe and/or paddleboarders.
