The Great Big Paddle Parade is a charity fundraiser and sea safety awareness campaign in support of the Torbay Lifeboat (RNLI). The event aims to see 1000 stand up paddle boarders take to the ocean in Torbay, to join a world record attempt for the most Stand Up Paddle Boarders on parade.
Participants will leave from their preselected beach location, established at the point of their ticket sale. 200 experts paddlers will launch from Abbey Sands Beach, 400 paddlers will Launch from Goodrington Beach and 400 paddlers will launch from Broadsands beach. As a group they will be guided on the water from one location to the next by Soak's senior water sports instructors, starting at Abbey Sands Beach and moving West along the coast towards the final location of Fishcombe Cove.
Paddling groups will be remaining within 50 metres of the coastline to enjoy spectator encouragement and plenty of photo opportunities. The parade will grow in scale as each group picks up the next on route until ultimately 1000 paddlers converge for the official adjudication at Fishcombe Cove. Paddlers will then be guided back to their starting locations where the event will come to a safe and successful close.
In addition to the 'on water' event, we have partnered with Cantina to develop a post paddling prize giving and social event in Youngs Park. We hope to erect a Stretch Tent on the grass in front of the band stand to facilitate live and recorded music, a BBQ and pop-up bar. This aspect of the event will be free to attend and Cantina will be responsible for meeting the licensing objectives, details of which are yet to be worked out with Torbay's licensing department.
