An increasing number of Cruise Ships now feature Tor Bay in their cruising itinerary. The English Riviera has so much to offer the passing tourist and Torquay is strategically placed for various cruises - Round Britain, Trans-Atlantic and European positioning, 100 nautical miles from Southampton and 200 nautical miles from Dover.
Ships generally anchor approximately ½ mile South West of Torquay Harbour, with tenders landing at Torquay. Passengers disembark on Beacon Quay or Haldon Pier and can sample the delights of local shops and cafes or opt for range of interesting coach excursion options.
The 2002-built MS The World cruise ship is the world's largest privately-owned cruise vessel. The boat serves as a residential community and is owned by its residents. The relatively small group of very very rich passengers are from ~40 countries and most of them actually live on the ship.
