Publication of the Adopted Greenspace Strategy

(Local Development Document LDD8)

"Encourage greater use of green spaces by local people"
The Greenspace Strategy SPD was adopted on 14 December 2006 and has now been published in its final printed form.

What is the Greenspace Strategy?

This Strategy forms a Supplementary Planning Document providing a strategic, focused and co-ordinated approach to the management of green spaces in Torbay.
This Greenspace Strategy outlines how the Council, in association with the community, intends to deliver and maintain high quality green spaces which enable equl access and opportunity for all, as well as protecting and enhancing the local environment. The document is split into two parts:

Stages within the planning process:

A summary of the Greenspace Strategy was launched at the ILAM National Parks Conference, Parks, Places and Countryside Seminar 2005, which was held in Torbay on the 13th to the 15th September 2005.
Subsequent work led to the production of a Draft Greenspace Strategy (Regulation 17 Draft) which was available for consultation from 19th June until 4pm on 28th July 2006.
The full report and associated summary was made available for consultation purposes. A Consultation Statement was also available which stated how the consultation carried out to date on the Greenspace Strategy had been taken into account.
Early drafts (Regualtion 17 and 19 documents) of the Greenspace Strategy are available from the Strategic Planning Group for information purposes only.

Sustainability Appraisal:

It is essential that in formulating the Greenspace Strategy consideration is given to the sustainability implications of the plan. It is for this purpose that a full sustainability appraisal has been compiled which outlines the key sustainability issues associated with the plan.  Key documents relating to the sustainability appraisal are included below for reference.
An Appropriate Assessment has also been carried out for the Greenspace Strategy to assess likley impacts of the Strategy on European Designated sites.
