What we do
The Children in Need Service is there for families when children could be at risk of significant harm or where children’s health or development will suffer without extra services.
Most children get the support they need within families and from schools, health visitors, GPs and other universal services for children.
When children have additional needs services may need to develop a detailed plan to think about how to work together. The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) provides a tool to help early identification of need and promote co-coordinated service provision. Children’s Services have CAF Mentors to support agencies in developing these plans. They can be contacted on 01803 207580.
Where the CAF has not sufficiently improved things for a young person, or immediately where agencies suspect a child is at risk of significant harm, the Children in Need Service should be contacted.
We can provide:
- Assessments of a child and family’s situation to help work out what to do next
- People to see children and listen to what they think
- Support and advice for parents and those working with children
- Coordination and monitoring of plans to resolve problems, ensuring they change the lives of children
- Accommodation for children when this is best for them
- Applications to the court to hold parental responsibility when this is needed to keep children safe
