Equality Standard

Torbay Council will be using the equality standard for local government as a framework for achieving, integrating and maintaining equality and inclusion.
There are 5 levels to the standard:
  1. Commitment to a Comprehensive Equality Policy
  2. Assessment and Consultation
  3. Setting Equality Objectives and Targets
  4. Information Systems and Monitoring against Targets
  5. Achieving and reviewing outcomes
The levels act as building blocks – helping a local authority establish key processes from which to continuously improve.  The Council reached level 2 of the equality standard in 2006/07.  In March 2008 the Council were successful in achieving level 3 of the standard following a Peer Assessment by the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA). The Council are one of only 4 authorities in the South West (March 08) to have achieved Level 3.
