Improvements to the Planning Portal

The Planning Portal has recently introduced some changes to their online application process.

Standard naming convention

A standard naming convention has been introduced for all supporting attachments submitted with Portal applications. This will allow LPAs to better index supporting documents from the planning back-office to the document management systems, reducing the manual effort of renaming attachments for publication on their websites.

Site addresses

An extra question has been added when selecting your application form:
“Is the applicant(s) address the same as the site address?”
If you click ‘Yes’ then the system will auto-populate the same information into the appropriate Applicant Details address.
This will ensure consistency in these instances where the two are the same (and a saving for agents that previously had to re-type this information).

Further improvements soon to come will include...

The Portal is currently working towards improvements to the process of attaching supporting documents to make the process simpler and less repetitive.
Making a payment for your online application will be moved to become the final part of the process of applying online. This will make the processing of payments easier for LPAs.
Forms will soon include an asterisk to highlight mandatory questions which will make it easier to see what information is required for your application form.
Improvements are also planned for the presentation of guidance for new users who are unfamiliar with planning and making planning applications.

Finding out about planning applications

If you are interested in finding out about one particular application we would first advise that you search the Planning Online database. Here you can establish whether a formal application for planning permission has been submitted to us (all applications appear on Planning Online as soon as they are valid) and full details and plans for all formal applications are available to view from there.
If you are interested in finding out more about a planning application that you’ve read about in an article in the local press then please note that these applications are often at pre-planning stage and a formal application may not yet have been submitted to Torbay Council.
