For guidance on making a comment about a planning application, including what constitutes reasonable grounds for objection, please visit our 'Commenting on a Planning Application' page.
Screening and Scoping Opinions
A request for a screening opinion is a request for the Local Planning Authority (LPA) to undertake a technical and factual assessment of whether a development proposal needs and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which would be considered as part of the planning application, this being generally dependent on the scale and sensitivity of the site involved.
A request for a scoping opinion is a request for the LPA to provide a report detailing what should be included in the EIA.
The requests appear on our Planning Online database for information purposes only. As neither of these requests are formal applications for planning permission they are not subject to the same consultation process and, therefore, provision is not normally made for public consultation.
