Council Car Parks - FAQs

Why do some car parks have height barriers thereby restricting the number of car parks I can use?

These are installed at multi-storey car parks where there is limited headroom due to the method of construction or at sites that are susceptible to being camped on by ‘travellers’.  It is unfortunate, but in order to preserve the safety of our customers we have to restrict access to those with higher vehicles.

I have a camper van/mobile home, what parking restrictions apply to me within a car park?

These types of vehicle are welcome on our car parks where we do not have height barriers installed.  If your vehicle takes up more than one parking bay you will have to purchase a commensurate number of pay & display tickets to the number of bays occupied.  Overnight sleeping in vehicles or camping is not permitted, nor is the heating, cooking or preparing of food.  There are many suitable camping sites across the bay with full amenities.

I drive a motorbike, where can I legally park within a car park?

Some of our car parks have parking areas for motorcycles and wherever possible, please use these bays.  In car parks where there are no parking areas, please park considerately outside of a parking bay.  There are no charges for motorcycle parking unless the vehicle is within a parking bay, then normal charges apply.

I am a blue badge holder, what concessions do Torbay Council give me within a car park?

We do not currently offer free parking for blue badge holders within the car parks unless you have a Disabled Persons Parking Permit.  We do, however, allow one hours parking in addition to our normal charges.  Therefore, if you intend to stay for 3 hours, you only need to purchase a ticket for 2 hours. Torbay Council currently offer a free Disabled Persons Parking Permit to all blue badge holders who are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance. This entitles you to park in any Torbay Council car park free of charge.
