What is the Torbay Access Wallet?
The Torbay Access Wallet is a bright orange wallet with plastic pockets that people can put information in to help make using the bus easier and help people be more independent
What does it do?
The wallet will tell bus drivers what help people may need on a journey.
It can help people to communicate what help they need using the bus and also hold important information about the support they might need if they have a problem on their journey.
Where can I use it?
You can use your wallet on any bus in Devon or Torbay and on First Great Western trains and stations. Taxi drivers also know about the wallet.
When can I use it?
You can use it anytime of day or night and at weekends
Who can use the wallets?
Anyone can have a wallet but the people it will help the most are people who get very nervous, people who need assistance, people who find it hard to communicate, people who don’t speak English as a first language, people with conditions and behaviours that the driver might not understand if something happens.
Do I get free travel with the wallet?
No. The wallet does not give you free or discounted travel on the buses or trains.
You may be able to apply for the National Free Bus Pass if you are over 60 or registered with a disability. This gives you free bus travel all over England.
What do I put in it?
The wallet has plastic pockets that you can put words, pictures, or cards in to show where you want to travel or the help you might need.
How do I use it?
Print off or make some cards to go in the wallet that will help you. They could be questions, information or places you go to regularly. You could use words or add pictures too
There will be some cards available for you to print online but for now you can print off some we have included in the leaflet below.
Make sure the writing is clear and bold. Ask a friend or supporter to help you.
For each journey you will need to make sure you have the cards you need.
If you have a weekly or monthly ticket or a Bus Pass you might want to keep this in there.
When you know the bus is coming try to show your wallet to the driver. This could be by holding it out or up in the air.
Do the same at the railway station if you are catching a train.
When you get on the bus show the driver where you want to travel to and any other information he may need to make your journey easier.
What if it gets lost or stolen?
If your wallet gets lost or stolen you should tell the person who gave the wallet to you.
Ask at lost property at the bus station?
If you can’t do this write to
