Torbay View Nominated for Award

Torbay View up for an award

Torbay Council's residents’ magazine Torbay View has been short listed for an award.

Torbay View is a 24 page glossy, quarterly magazine, written and designed by the council and distributed via the local paper, the Herald Express, to 63,000 households. The council recently submitted the magazine for an award and has just received the good news that the publication has been short listed for the category ‘Best Magazine or Newspaper’ in the Chartered Institute for Public Relations (CIPR) Pride Awards 2007.

Torbay Mayor Nick Bye said: "Being short listed is a tremendous achievement. Torbay View has been judged to the highest standards by leading PR experts to be amongst the best in our region, including publications from the private sector.

"Torbay View is an important part of the council’s communication strategy. It aims to provide a lively, forward-looking and informative magazine combining council and community news of interest to all the diverse communities and age-groups which make up the Bay."

The main aims of the publication are to:

  • help improve the quality and accessibility of information provided by Torbay Council
  • give the people of Torbay a better understanding of the work of the council and encourage them to participate in the democratic process
  • ensure that local residents, partner agencies and the business community are aware of the services that the council provides and how to use them
  • encourage local residents and organisations to engage with the council and to get involved with the local community.

The Torbay Council entry was one of 1,456 entries into the CIPR Pride Awards this year.

Colin Farrington, CIPR Director General and Chairman of the Judges, said: “To reach the Pride Awards short list is a remarkable achievement as year on year the quantity and quality of entries increases and competition gets stronger. The finalists are testament to the good PR work going on outside of London and across sectors. They should feel proud of their chosen profession’s invaluable contribution to business and society.”
