Tessier Gardens are a small and delightful park between Babbacombe and St. Marychurch. This was a gift to the town in 1933 by Mrs HA Tessier. A 'Sun temple' was constructed latter the same year in recognition of Mrs Tessier's generosity. A scented garden for the blind was designed and planted as recently as 1975.
The collection of plants in the garden had just been enhanced with the addition of more plants and shrubs during spring 2002. The botanical names have been etched in Braille on copper plates. The gardens are superb and lend themselves to quiet contemplation and enjoyment of the tranquil setting.
In accordance with the covenants bestowed upon the council in 1933, children under the age of 18 are not strictly permitted in the park, however the Council does not rigidly enforce this rule and discourages the use of the rule, in recognition of modern day use of parks. Parents with children under 18 are actively invited to use the park, however, in respect of the other park users, we ask they are always under adult supervision.
Please note: The park gates are locked at night and no dogs are permitted within the park area.
If you are interested in being part of the 'Friends of Tessier Gardens' please call the Parks Development Officer on 01803 207992 for further details – Thank you.
Tessier Gardens has been awarded with a 2007 Green Flag Award - the award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales and is a way of rewarding the best green spaces in the country.
