Greenspace Torbay
Promoting our Environment - A Community Working Together
Are you interested in improving the quality of the environment within Torbay? Would you like to be involved with Greenspace Torbay? If so join one of the many parks friends groups, community groups or town action 'in bloom' groups in your area!!! Or alternatively you may already be part of a group concerned with the environment and wish to attend on behalf of your own group, for example allotment assocations.
Greenspace Torbay was created following the adoption of the
Greenspace Strategy by Torbay Council which is a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) under the
Local Development Framework (LDF) and seeks to involve all interested parties in the realisation of items on the action plan, inform people about all issues relating to greenspace and also act as a forum for groups to network and discuss projects that they are working on with a view to finding out about funding or how to get the right people involved.
Also discussed in the Greenspace Torbay meetings is Torbay in Bloom which covers the efforts of all four town action 'in bloom' groups in entering the Royal Horticultural Society - Britain in Bloom - South West in Bloom competition each year. It enables the groups to discuss each entry in a forum environment and suggest new ideas.
The next meeting of Greenspace Torbay is on the 18 May 2010 at 6pm in the Cecil Room at Oldway Mansion, Paignton – please call 01803 207969 if you would like to attend or send your apologies.
Town Action 'in Bloom' Groups (TAGS)
To help engender the sense of civic pride, individual executive control was introduced to four town areas within Torbay. Each of these four Town Action Groups (St Marychurch & District , Torquay, Paignton, Brixham) is a team of interested people devoted to the effective administration and promotion of Torbay in Bloom for their respective towns.
These Town Action groups also enter the South West in Bloom competition each year, to be judged alongside other towns/areas in the South West.
Please contact the Leisure Community Development Officer for further information on how to become involved with a Town Action 'in Bloom' Group in your area.
We are also pleased to run the annual
Bay Blooms Competition which is open to all persons in the Torbay area to enter. Please visit our competition page to find out more information. We take entries for the competition all year round ready for the judging during the summer!!!
Happy gardening!!!.
