Charter Mark

The library service seeks accreditation through schemes which will contribute to the quality of its provision, such as Charter Mark. This is awarded by the Cabinet Office "for excellence in public service". In November 2007, the library service renewed its Charter Mark status which was first achieved in 2002. There is now full compliance (1 partial non-compliance in 2006), and the number of Best Practice examples was increased from 6 to 7 in 2007. The award is prized, and is a recognition of the efforts made by staff to achieve a customer-focussed service.

A successful service should:

  1. Set standards and perform well
  2. Actively engage with customers, partners and staff
  3. Be fair and accessible to everyone and promote choice
  4. Continuously develop and improve
  5. Use resources effectively and imaginatively
  6. Contribute to improving opportunities and quality of life in the communities served

We continue to work towards excellence for all our customers, whether in our libraries, on our website or through outreach activity.

You can find out more about Charter Mark from the Cabinet Office website.
