Diving, Sailing, Canoeing, Rowing, Powerboats, Windsurfing, Kite Surfing, Water Skiing, Wake Boarding  and Jet Skiing (PWC) are all actively encouraged in Tor Bay there is even a sports strategy to try and encourage better sporting facilities.

Tor Bay Harbour Marine Sport Strategy

The promotion of better sporting facilities is crucial to Torbay’s quality of life for all sections of the community, hence the development of a Sports Strategy, marking the way forward for Torbay. This identifies the four main priority sports as Swimming, Tennis, Athletics and last but not least Water Sports!

The key elements of the Water Sports action plan include:-

  • Improving beach access
  • New slipway at Torquay Harbour
  • Widening Beacon Quay
  • Supporting improvements of sailing clubs i.e. boat storage and launch facilities.

The Sports Strategy sets out the vision for the encouragement and development of sport within the local community and will seek to further capitalise on Torbay's unique marine setting and by promoting Torbay as a centre for marine events and activities.
