Public Rights of Way - Enforcement

The highway authority has a duty to ensure all Public Rights Of Way are kept free of obstructions at all times and we have to take action against landowners or occupiers.

Enforcement Action

Most obstructions on Public Rights of Way can be resolved by notice or standard letter. Examples of these are an overgrown hedge, a locked gate, illegal notices, signs or barbed wire on gates.

If you know of a Public Right of Way that is obstructed, please contact the Highways department.
