The Torbay Urban Design Guide is a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) which forms part of the Local Development Framework. The aim of this SPD is to improve the quality of Torbay's urban environment and encourage a high standard of design for new developments. The document provides advice for developers, public bodies and planners with regard to the design and assessment of urban development in Torbay. The aim of the SPD is to bring about a design and development process that is more collaborative, responds better to meeting local opportunities and needs, and encourages high quality developments that have minimal impact on natural resources.
The Urban Design Guide SPD was adopted on 7 February 2007 after having gone through two stages of consultation. All documents/leaflets for each stage are available below for information purposes only.
It is essential that in formulating the Urban Design Guide consideration is given to the sustainability implications of the plan. The plan has therefore been tested throughout its evolution for any impacts (good or bad) that it may have had on the local social, economic or environmental situation.
An Appropriate Assessment has also been carried out to determine the impacts of the Urban Design Guide on European designated sites in or near Torbay.
The full documents and summary leaflets for previous drafts/ stages of the Urban Design Guide are available below for information purposes only. The consultation period for these documents has now closed.
