School Governing Bodies

Governing Body Support provides a range of services to equip governing bodies to fulfil their role in ensuring the best quality education for all children.   The team is based at Oldway Mansion in Paignton and is made up of the Governing Body Support Officer and two assistants.  

Services for governing bodies, clerks and headteachers include  

  • information and induction training for new governors and associate members
  • advice and information, including changes to statutory responsibilities
  • a training programme of centrally organised courses
  • support for the recruitment, selection and appointment of LEA governors
  • maintenance of a database of governor records
  • in-house governing body training or consultancy focusing on governing body effectiveness
  • newsletters circulated to all governing body members

Governing Body Support also co-ordinates the election of Parent Governor Representatives on Torbay Council.
