'Our children need people like you - professional, hard-working and caring individuals. By working with children you help to shape them and make a positive difference to their lives. Don’t forget, it’s never too late to learn, and what you learn should be of just as much benefit to you as it will be to the children you work with.'

Training

Research has shown that continued professional training is the single most influential factor on settings which achieve quality provision. Employees are also more likely to stay within a sector that they feel values them and their work.

Providing access to a wide range of training is one of the many functions of the Torbay Early Years and we support the Government recommendation that ALL early years practitioners access 4 days of relevant training per year. Foundation stage practitioners in receipt of Government funding should be accessing 4 days relevant training per year, 3 of which should be curriculum based (2 if you are a SENCO).

We also encourage practitioners to raise the level to which they are trained, particularly leaders, supervisors and managers who should be looking towards a minimum level 4 professional qualifications.

There are so many positives to gaining a qualification. For individuals it can be a sense of achievement and professionalism, for settings in can enhance the quality of provision and create a team-centred outlook.

In today's market of increasing competition, early years educators, childcare and play providers who can show themselves to be of good quality will not only be ahead of the game when it comes to OfSTED inspections, but will also stand a better chance of being sustainable in the longer term. Training plays a huge part in this, but providers can also raise their profiles by undertaking a Quality Assurance Award.
