Special Educational Needs and Disability

Torbay Early Years Inclusion Service incorporates the Pre-school Advisory Teachers and the Portage Team. Advisory Teachers offer an individual service to children who have significant difficulties in the following areas:

• developmental delay.
• learning difficulties.
• speech and language or communication difficulties.
• autistic spectrum disorders.
• sensory disabilities when combined or association with any of the above.

They work with parents and carers to promote their child's development, both at home and in settings. The team also provide information and support to enable access to educational facilities and resources.

They will liaise with schools and work in partnership with other professionals to co-ordinate special educational provision. Provide training and advice to early years staff and offer advice and guidance on programmes for individual children.

The Portage team offer:

• a home teaching service for children with special needs.
• preparation of education plans.
• weekly home visits.
• written teaching activities.
• key working as part of the Early Support Programme.
