Boundary Committee publishes draft proposal for Devon
Torbay Council today ( 7 July) expressed disappointment at the Boundary Committee for England's draft proposals which would see the boundaries of Plymouth and Torbay councils remain unchanged, with a single unitary authority covering the rest of the whole of Devon.

Torbay Mayor Nick Bye said, 'This has to be seen as a huge missed opportunity to bring real benefits to the people and communities of Devon. Torbay's submission for an enlarged boundary would have ensured the provision of a financially viable and secure local authority, able to deliver value for money public services and provide strong and accountable leadership for the whole South Devon community.

'We will need to look at the affect on Torbay  of a neighbouring single unitary authority serving a population of over 700,000 and the challenges that this will create .We will be studying the proposals further and then making a programme of visits to our neighbouring  communities to gather their views. We will also be very interested to hear the views of the public during the Boundary Committees consultation period.’
