What is the Electoral Register?

The Electoral Register is a list, compiled by all local authorities, of persons eligible to vote in elections within their authority's boundary, ours is the Borough of Torbay. The Electoral Registration officer has a statutory duty to compile this each year. The register is a public document and is available to view at the Town Hall, Torquay

Am I eligible to vote?

In order to be eligible to register to vote you must be a citizen of Britain, a commonwealth country, the Republic of Ireland or another European Union State. You must also be 18 years of age or about to become 18 whilst the register is in force.

How do I get on the Electoral Register?

You can obtain a registration form from any of the Connections office, from the Electoral Services office or by visiting the Electoral Commission’s website at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk opens in a new window to print and complete a registration form.

When will my name appear on the register?

The electoral register is published every year at the latest by 1st December and is active until 30th November the following year. However, monthly updates are produced in addition to this. Please contact the Electoral Services office for more information.

I have found out that I am not on the register because I have recently moved / my name has changed. Can I alter my details?

Please contact the Electoral Services and we will send you the relevant form to complete so that we can add you to the register or change your details.

Can I look at the Electoral Register?

Yes, the current copy for Torbay is available  to view at the Town Hall, Torquay. It is advisable to book an appointment with the Electoral Services office to see the register. The edited version of the register is available to view in the three Connections Offices and at local libraries.

Can you help me find an old friend who lives in the area?

The Electoral Register is a public document available for everyone to view. It is printed in address order with the name of the registered people at those addresses. With the Data Protection Act, we are unable to disclose individuals personal details, this includes enquiry by name.
